July 1, 2010 - Is God Listening to me?

Have you ever asked God for something in your life and there are times it would appear that He is not listening; and we often get discouraged. One thing I have realized is that life is a process. We live and by going through the process we should be learning new things to guide us along on our continued path. Many of the new schema's we learn are through hardships of articulated expressions of struggles. Irregardless of how they are obtained, the point is they are learned. They should be valued and added to our repertoire of life lessons. So I say to you...continue to forge ahead for oftentimes when we think the Master is not listening; and as we continue our walk, that is when we truly learn that He was listening all the time.

Seek to know that you might grow...

Go in peace...and blessings!

TLDM© Do you know what vehicle you are driving and what you can handle? Upgrade to that POWER CAR!

I come from a male dominated car driving family. The men in my life when I was growing up just loved cars. One grandfather (Oliver) was an Oldsmobile man until he discovered Honda and then the Acura. While the other grandfather (Gooding) was a Caddy man. Then there is my father who drove Chrysler's, Oldsmobile's, Chevrolet's and even a RV back in the day. So I grew up riding in all types of vehicles, while learning to listen for knocks and noises that were not necessarily normal to the wear and tear of the vehicle. To this day I have a fine tuned ear when it comes to cars.

Now I learned to drive on my grandfather's (Gooding) brown leather interior Caddy. He loved the car and I must admit it was sweet. It was smooth to cruise in, a fully loaded automatic dream ride. The other car I learned to drive in was my brother's Datsun. A little stick shift; that I frequently ground the gears on. To this day I doubt if I've told my brother about grinding those gears...LOL! By the time I got my first car which my grandfather (Oliver) helped me buy..it was a little red Toyota...I was becoming the expert at stick shifts and their mobility. The Toyota had no power steering and I could maneuver those gears like nobody's business. I even learned to down shift and slow down without ever touching my brake. In fact the weekend I got my car I took off to Boston all my myself..I figured if I could master this hill in our local garage near Macy's I could master a three hour ride from CT to Boston.

To this day I have driven all types of vehicles, but have owned the 760 Volvo (Turbo) and Wagon, Ford Explorer, Toyota, Land Rover Discovery (II), BMW (5 series), and Nissan Maxima (SE). Mind you each of these vehicles were unique in comparison to the other vehicle. The Max was driven off the show room floor with about 26 miles on it; it was pearly white and had mad shine that was luminescent in the sun. I fell in love with that car and when I had to give it up, it was a lease I went through Maxima withdrawal..LOL! I was forever burning rubber just to prove a point at the light that I got mad speed behind my game and I was a woman to boot that could rock a stick shift...LOL! Whereas, the Land Rover, I had to maneuver that baby gently..she was not good at taking sharp turns and burned a hole in my budget just for gasoline. She only got 300 miles to a gallon and took $80 to fill her up. Yet she was a beaut in regards to space. Now my favorite of all time was my Beemer...she took hair pin turns easily at speeds above 60 or 70 and had mad speed game that passed the Max on every level of performance. I noticed the difference almost immediately even though she was an automatic rather than a stick shift.

Each of my cars I would admire the beauty of their sexy lines, their color, the curves of the body. Each held a different fascination based upon the power of the engine. Whether it was 5, 6 or 8 cylinder. I have even driven putt putts. While going through life changes and a divorce, I had one car that when it rained, the puddles would accumulate on the floor boards. The other was an old UI (Electric Company) car with the insignia scraped off. Those two vehicles were a lesson in pride from God. He provided for me, but it wasn't what I expected, but through that process I learned to be humble and accept what He had placed before me. The lines weren't beautiful nor sexy on these two vehicles, but they got me to where I had to go and I learned to love them just as they were. It was always the thought process, I will not remain with this vehicle but will have an upgrade. Lesson learned!

I'm comparing cars because so many of us can relate to vehicles in a natural sense. We have an affinity for them and its just not about their ability to carrying us from one location to the next. Most of us are dependent upon them for work, school and our daily lives; and we all understand that in spite of their beauty (luxury) or deformities/defects (putt putts) there are certain priorities that must be addressed to release the power within the vehicle whether it is a tiny engine or a one that can surpass every car and leave a dust cloud of proof in its wake.

Ladies I must bring the vehicle connation to point...we as women hold so much power in relationships - - I keep stressing this because there must come a time when a transition and shift must began to occur if our families, relationships and communities are going to survive. We can not continue to tear at our own selves, covering and each other and expect our lives to manifest healthy components - change must occur. It is not without note that men hold responsibility to...each party must meet its own God given mandate. Yet woman were created as the helpmeet...one that meets the help(s).

Most of us love to drive power cars, but not putting the key in the ignition will not give you all the potential power of the vehicle. We are too caught up admiring the beauty of the vehicle..the color..the sexy lines..the curves of it's body but fail to understand the power is within the engine (spirit man) and it needs to be started to work..we're on the outside looking at it rather than sitting in the driver's seat...the plush leather seats..that hold you etc..which makes for an awesome driving experience. However, those seats even if heated will keep you warm, but will not produce anything else but heat and eventually we all tire of heat - particularly if it is 80 degrees outside. We must understand that the power is in the engine (spirit man) not in the chassis (physical man). Hence, we must get in the vehicle to learn of it's power. Such as it is in relationships; work is involved and we must have engagement of the minds and spirit.

If you've never driven anything but a 4 or 6 cylinder engine then you have no clue to what the power of a 8 cylinder can hold. You've been driving putt putts but desire a bigger and better car. Yet if you don't take care of that putt putt, your behavior will more than likely remain the same when you get the larger car. You won't realize that the dash board states 160 and because you are used to doing only 80 your foot will not surpass that 80 mark unless you get a jolt of realization that I'm driving a different car. This is the same with the men in our lives. No two are the same. The one that hurt you last year doesn't mean that the new one is going to do the same. So often we carry that comparison and bitterness in our spirit and relate all our experiences the same. If you can only handle the putt putt..then deal with the putt putt until you can do better; but make that step up vehicle a goal in the back of your mind. This just basically translates to internal visions and goals of your life of things you want ...and often things that God wants you to have. At that same time..learn to place boundaries in your life of what you will and will not do. Respect yourself first and then respect others; and know that deliverance is a process...and looking ahead often allows you to obtain that deliverance and that desired goal.

Ladies you do have the ability and power and understanding to up build our men and our communities. I realize that many have been hurt countless times and many have lost faith even if we are not willing to admit it. The healing must take place to reach to others. Queens daughters excel above the rest. We were designed to give and show love in spite of our tests and trials and sometimes inconceivable situations; whether they were brought on by generational curses and or situations or doors we opened on our own, God is still a healer and deliverer and there is no sorrow He can not fix. We do have the right and ability to repair breaches and gaps in our lives and the lives of our men, but it will not be done with bitterness. The word tells us that power of life and death is in our tongues (Proverbs 18:21); and psychology tells us self-fulfilling prophecies do come true, which is only an indication of God's word; and check this out...as you give to others you might just find out that that putt putt has now become the power car of your dreams.

Seek to know that you might grow.

Break the Cycle

This is not your typical Valentine's Message...but God is speaking today...He is the author of Love..who better to give such a word...a word because He cares....a word because He wants each of us to live to our fullest potential in Him...a word that is life changing..and that Word is Him..manifested in His Son - Jesus Christ who died that all might be pulled out of sin.

There are so many isms and schisms in our bodies…needless to say that is not what is on my heart today. Women of God, and those who call themselves such…it’s time to break some cycles. Those of you who are hurting and pull others into your abyss of madness need to stop and break the cycle. The more I minister and counsel the more I come across women/young ladies who have been abused by other women. THIS NEEDS TO STOP! IT MUST STOP! All I say is in love, but if you’re jacked up…get some deliverance…get counseling. ..get the help you need. You inflict pain and spiritual components on someone else--who then in turn continues the madness. God is about to call each of you out who stand in this position. There are those of us who have been in your shoes but refused to perpetrate the cycle and abuse. It is not right in God’s eyes and His judgment will be dealt with you differently than those who you have abused.

Women are nurturers and so it is easy for us to turn to each other for guidance, assistance; for love. But God is not pleased; and I’m speaking to those who KNOW better. The word tells us that a person who knows to do right and doesn’t do it..to HER it is a sin. There are those who stand in the gap for others and know how to bring the manifestation of deliverance – it is such time. Our young women struggle and we wonder why…many of you have played a hand in it – and God will such judge. For those who want deliverance…God is truly able and stands waiting for you. It’s time to break the cycle and live accordingly…by His Master Design and Plan.

I am praying for you.

Intimacy and Transparency (see into me {God})

Why is it so married folk are struggling with intimacy in their relationships?

Here is a theory to ponder and is the one of the excerpt from “The..........” can’t put the title out there yet :-)

You can’t teach what do you don’t know or understand someone once said to me.

True intimacy is possible only when two persons with relatively stable identities freely choose to be together. A couple is not really free if one or both is still fighting old developmental battles. Scars from the past may have been reopened when a relationship is marked by uncomfortable feelings of mistrust, shame and doubt, inferiority, and or identity diffusion. Such feelings complicate a person's capacity freely to enter the post adolescent stage which Erickson calls "intimacy versus isolation." Sexual relating, at its deepest level, is a crucible for the working through of these issues in one of the most vulnerable areas of life. Molestation, abuse and low self esteem from one's past further complicate this dynamic.

Clearly there is a selfish component surrounding any situation like this. Over the years in speaking to people, couples, and in one-on-one ministry, I have learned many chose not to share vital information before going into relationships. For those I spoke to there seemed to be a hording of information on either the man’s or woman’s part or both. I realize that to share means one must be vulnerable and uncover secrets, issues, problems that one feels no one should know because they feel the other party may not understand. However, when you choose to withhold vital information—well that puts your relationship at risk whether immediately or in the future. Yes, I can hear someone now...well my lover may walk away. Well there is that same possibility that they walk when the information comes out; and it is bound to come out. Personally, I would rather have the information on the table and up front and allow the other person to make a choice to continue to love me or leave me. The concept and reality is is that fear binds up so many wholesome potential situations in all of our lives.

Intimacy denotes transparency and should be considered in all of our relationships, whether married, friends or family. It is interesting to note that on the website www.changingminds.org the physical properties are defined as such: Transparency allows the natural light to spread as far as possible. That means that there should be no availability of darkness in any situation. Yet the reality is many of us are ambiguous about our past in regards to most components. I was sharing with someone this week that if my life can be used to assist someone else to receive into their life; and to alleviate a situation expeditiously; then that is worth the trouble I have gone through within my own life. So often we have the ability to receive from others, but sadly many of us choose not to; only to extend our season beyond the normal definition of God’s time span of that same said situation. It would appear at times the human race (overall) has this distinct thought process that “I got this”. Mind you this does not apply to all cultures, ethnicities and or socio-economic backgrounds; it appears to be a Western thought process rather than an Eastern.

We must learn to access and extract the information (issues) of our past; this is needed before many of us can move forward. We must learn that until we deal with our baggage we cannot enter into a healthy relationship and expect the other person to assume us and our undeniably dysfunctional components. Love is not what you get but what you bring to the table. Initially all maybe well, but eventually based on circumstances in your present; elements from your past will begin to seep into your current relationship and thus the breakdown in communication begins. So many of us long for someone to love us in spite of our issues; we have that “take me as I am” mentality; and expect that of the other person, but we are not willing to do the same.

God is the ultimate exponent of love and all that it denotes. He saw a need and provided that need in the form of His Son, Jesus. Our type and shadow of Love itself is Christ. One who was willing to die to expel our sins and all that it details. When I was younger, I would often imagine the contents of that cup that Jesus was requested to partake of In Matthew 26 I would think of the smell, the type of sin; the human expression of need, will, the lowest base elements of anything conceivable. Yet throughout that whole process Jesus partook for each of us. He made a decision and He was our example of transparency and intimacy. He did not hide from us, in fact should we choose to we have the ability to become a part of Him. Isn’t that what we all desire, to become a part of someone else and to make an impact in their life? To be loved? To share all that we are? Well I submit to you it is possible. Our make and model that never goes out of style is Christ himself. Make appropriate decisions to be transparent in your relationships and watch the change begin. We must learn to be Change Agents and must first start with ourselves. If the love of your life or your friend chooses to walk away, then I submit to you that they were never meant to be a permanent placement in your life. God gives us times and seasons, sometimes relationships are seasonal for if that person cannot stay and assist you in your battles to become all that God intended you to be; then that person was never meant to stay. Nonetheless there is one who will always be available to listen, to hear, to be transparent before you and desires the utmost levels of intimacy. That is your relationship between you and God. Seek to know Him. Desire Him. Stop using other methods to chase after your dreams to fulfill your needs and dream of Him. Chase after Him and watch your life reposition itself on all levels and in every form.

Seek to know so that you might grow!

Go in peace.

Wikipedia is not an actual resource that can be used to cite references, for the information can be changed by any unreliable source. However, I chose to use this method to bring clarity to the definitions being used.

Intimacy generally refers to the feeling of being in a close personal association and belonging together. It is a familiar and very close affective connection with another as a result of entering deeply or closely into relationship through knowledge and experience of the other. Genuine intimacy in human relationships requires dialogue, transparency, vulnerability and reciprocity. As a verb "intimate" means "to state or make known". The activity of intimating (making known) underpins the meanings of "intimate" when used as a noun and adjective. As a noun, an "intimate" is a person with whom we have a particularly close relationship. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intimacy">

Transparency - free from pretense or deceit : frank b : easily detected or seen through : obvious c : readily understood d : characterized by visibility or accessibility of information especially concerning business practices http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/transparent

I’M STILL HERE – CLOSEOUT OF A DECADE – 2000 - 2009

Ahhh…time for reflection for real..lol..

Honestly I don’t even know if I can get everything that I’ve gone through over the past 10 years into a few paragraphs…so I’ll give a few highlights and later yall can check out the full version in my book (smile). This is the very first time I am beginning to share some of the past nine years in writing. However, the purpose of me writing and sharing is to let somebody know that no matter what you go through in life; when your life and goals are anchored in Christ; and you have an established relationship with Him, then all things work together for your good. Matthew 6:33 and Romans 8:28

As the decade rolled in (2000) everyone was experiencing a shift either naturally or spiritually. The world was talking about Y2K and the ability for computers to either reset back to the 1900’s or that the world was going to end. Patches were being created to keep systems from crashing while people in general became aware that one decade had faded into oblivion and another one was beginning. Many of the elders of previous generations never thought they would live to see the year 2000 let alone experience all the joys and pains that came along with it. Little did I realize my personal life was about to come crashing down around my head and there was no escape. It was a year that I got a BMW for Valentine’s Day, but truth be told that was a material possession; and that as time continued along I realized that possessions had little or no value compared to the value of my life. I believe it was the year 1999 that I was separated from my husband at the time - - no check that - - I was put out; out in the snow and it wasn’t the first time. That particular time I lived above my parents for a few months before going back home. Have you ever been in a situation where you do all that you can to rectify the problem, but it feels like you are the only one working on the matter? Welcome to my life.

Anyway 2000 saw a time frame where the husband went to jail for about three months. That alone was an experience. Even back then God was showing me favor and taking me places I had never been before. It began in 1998 and I remember my foster daughter Myra calling me and wanting to come over out of the blue; who but God for how could I even share the knowledge of what was initially going on. I was able to leave the children with her and head to the police station to handle business. Mind you I had not one clue how to bail someone out of jail; and the officers literally assisted me in my endeavors by allowing me to use their personal space/offices to make phone calls. As I sat in the station waiting I saw the familiar face of one of our area’s news reporters and my heart sank; for I knew it was regarding the immediate circumstance. Another notch in the belt of hits; the news coverage was on television around the state and in the local newspaper. I could only think of my eldest son who had the same name as his father. Well we weathered that until 2000 came around where the only income was available while the husband was incarcerated was from my job; and I had three little ones at home to take care of. In the meantime I learned to take the children to see their father where he was located. I learned the system of taking a couple of the children, checking in ½ hour before visitor time and the most valuable lesson of all; women who went out of their way to see their men. It was there that I saw some of the most haunted faces of various cultures and ethnicities. You could actually discern the hope, faith and despair on their faces all mixed in with components of frustration. See at anytime a lock down could occur and all the time spent planning and waiting would be for naught. More so than that I doubt if any of them actually wanted to believe and think that their men were guilty of the crimes they were accuse of. See women want with all their heart to believe that they have good men who are doing their best to take care of their families. Many days I sat there saddened to see the looks. See personally, I was only there for my children’s sake and I knew the person in my life was guilty of the crime he was accused of.

Towards the end of the quarter of 2000 the man of the house came home and in my typical fashion of who I am – forgiveness was granted and I tried to continue life; however, it was with the realization that love covers; but yet one must adjust their mind frame and process around the previous issues. Needless to say life was not easy. See I was married to a person who was basically selfish and the marriage was verbally abusive. In addition, my spirit was disturbed; something wasn’t quite right; but God wasn’t allowing me to see all the components of the situation. See for years I had been asking God Almighty to get me out. Oh, I knew how to manage the details and issues around me but there were days I was shaky at best. God was keeping me covered because I had almost lost my mind two previous times. Around May 2001, my spirit became settled through various means and I made my petition before God; I will be in this marriage until you say so - - not just my body, but my mind and my spirit. What’s interesting about God and our relationship is when we truly become transparent before Him, He actually bestows a mind frame to us based upon His mind. It’s one of strength, endurance and in reality Joy. I forgot to mention that as I laid before God in prayer, I also asked him to uncover any issues that were not seemingly in and around my life. Well folk it was in May 2001 that my life literally blew up before my eyes.

I love my relationship with God because of all that I go through He still keeps me covered and cares about the little things in my life. The husband threatened my life and based on circumstances I was out of my house with approximately two set of clothes to wear. It was a wash one wear one deal for about a week. My children and I moved in with my cousins. The same week information came to light; the husband was found to be creeping (again). This time nothing could be rectified and so begun the process of restraining orders, filing for divorce, battling over the children, losing my possessions, losing my children among other things. My BMW had sugar put in the tank; the transmission fluid drained, I was stalked, harassed, threatened, well you get my point. God was taking me through a process that had I known was coming, I personally would NOT have been praying for exposure in my life. Talk to me back then and my thought process would have been whoa..no way..I can’t handle that. Yet here I am about to close out the decade in my right mind, thought process and standing victorious in all that God is allowing me to put my hands to.

Trust me I’ve been to hell and back, but I’M STILL HERE. God has shown Himself faithful in every situation in my life from 2000 until 2009. He has made some promises He has yet to fulfill for me. He has promised to restore to me; and ten is the number of restoration and so I look forward to 2010 with expectation of His Glory! It’s about your faith which takes you from one level of faith to another level of faith to glory; His glory in and around your life. When God speaks of the ‘joy of the Lord is your strength’; it is not always about a physical manifestation of joy you can see but about the process that He has personally designed you to go through. The people in the book of Nehemiah had been through something’s. We as people will always have struggles and triumphants and personal loss; but God is looking for relationship through the entire process with you. He loves it when you lean on Him and asks Him for help. See we live in a time frame where you hear transparency and communication on a regular basis from the President, Congress, down to our personal relationships. Yet it is difficult to be transparent with each other if your relationship with God does not denote the same. It is difficult to communicate with each other if you are not communicating with God. The word/bible is but a map to lead one to how God thinks. You can not know Him without knowing what is in the word. They go hand in hand. The word became flesh (John 1:14) and dwelt among us which means Christ came to show us the path to salvation, the path of light not darkness. Nothing evil dwelt in Him and He is your clear pathway to salvation. Even more so it is about divine relationship and Him dwelling on the inside.

Here’s an example; a piece of fruit that is rotten is rotten from the core out. The rottenness comes from bacteria. How often have you bit into fruit that looks beautiful from the outside but once bitten the core is brown? It is the same process with our lives. Our outer core is our flesh which in reality is still rotting flesh; for we must bath daily, scrub, perfume, poke, squeeze, etc. until we look of perfection. Yet inward many of us are suffering in spite of the good looking outward exterior. Beauty is fleeting but a when we praise our God He will cleanse us from the inside out!

So as we closeout this decade I encourage you to set your sights on the New Year with a different mind frame. Think of relationship; a relationship with one who can ease your sorrow, and your pain; even your difficulties in how you approach your life problems. I have only shared a small portion of my life from the past ten years and there is so much more. Yet I give of myself so you might understand that serving God beats everything else hands down. I’M STILL HERE!!!

I pray increase and knowledge into your life by the mere fact of reading this blog. I encourage you to seek His face and ask for His wisdom. I declare a moving and shifting within your spirit and state that your life shall never be the same again! Go in peace….

Seek to know that you might grow.

In His service,

B
